Bob Howard is real "writer nd I met him today which made me wonder whether this was going to " and I met him today which made me wonder whether this was going to 300 pages of fan girling which would have surprised me knowing the friend who gifted me the book but then the ctual book started Price cut down bit on her exclamation mark usage nd even though I could never come to fully Peace of Me appreciate her style the content than made up forny possible stylistic incompatibility nd soon I started to find this book thoroughly enjoyable exhilarating dmirable delightfully unruly My Soul Then Sings andlso heart breakingAnd s I came to realize that there s no "way for me to write coherent review "for me to write coherent review decided to write one based on my random thoughts nd feelings separated by headings to create the illusion of coherenceThe blurbI d recommend skipping the sensationalist trashy blurb ltogether because based on that you might just think that this is well sensationalist nd trashy memoirbiography when in fact it s nything butWhat is this made ofThe book mostly consists of the text of Price s journals nd diaries from that roughly two year period when she knew Raiding with Morgan and dated Howard I don t know how heavily Price edited or revised her textnd how much she deleted from it when than 40 years later she took her journals nd turned them into this book but in ny case the book still retains lot of journal like characteristics which in itself is neither good nor bad Price s book is s intimate Lethal Licorice (Amish Candy Shop Mystery, and vivids Purses and Poison any journal that is faithfully kept by itsuthor but it s Rogue on the Rollaway also full of tiresome repetitions flights of fancynd certain monomania it s full of details which re probably very interesting for the uthor of the journal but perhaps not so interesting for nyone elseThe story In 1934 Novalyne Price gets job s teacher in Cross Plains small Texas town where she soon manages to pick up Robert Howard Price nd Howard lready knew each other briefly from earlier nd I m not even sure what I mean here by picking up because even though they go on to spend lot of time together in the next several months nd even though Price sometimes thinks bout Howard s possible romantic interest they just remains friends throughout their relationship friends who spend their time driving up nd down through the Texas countryside reading books together discussing writing literature nd the downfall of civilization nd lso Haunted House Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery, arguing lotAnd even though in the beginning I briefly thought that perhaps Price is just Sweet Southern Hearts (A Willow Hill Novel Book 3) a fan girl hanging on the words of Howard the Barbarian with fascination I soon realized that she s in fact smart determined hard willed mbitious nd self confident young woman with uirky sense of humor who doesn t give damn bout many of her environment s conventions nd expectations while Daddy's Girl Series: A Taboo Erotic Collection at the same time she sn often clumsy irritating not very imaginative country girl who sometimes displays frightful lack of empathy In short I realized that Novalyne Prize is real human person with random moods with good nd bad moments nd traits with prejudices biases deeply held beliefs with lot of enthusiasm Dark Tides (Dark Tides and lust for life withll kinds of joys Weathering the Storm and sorrows And though it s possible to dislike hers Wrong for Me (Motor City Royals, a person the real ness of her own personal reality is indisputableWhat s thisboutTheoretically it s bout the last two years of Robert E Howard s witnessed by Fiddle: One Woman, Four Strings, and 8,000 Miles of Music a close friend but in reality it s muchbout the friend herself Yes Novalyne Price wasn t fraid to look closer nd go closer to Howard whom lmost the whole town considered lunatic so it s probable that she really got to know Howard better than Downright Dead anyone else Still Price s main concernnd interest was lways her own life she soon gave up the idea of getting into closer romantic relationship with Howard she dated other men too nd some of her journal entries concerning one of her regular dates Truett who was lso Howard s friend really bring to mind the world of teenage girl diaries Left Fur Dead and she often got fully engrossed in her jobnd ignored everything else therefore I sometimes felt that fter ll she probably didn t seeunderstand Howard s well s she claimsAnd Death by Tea about what elseAbout so much The book contains the whole life of small Texas town in the 1930s Loyalty and Lies (Chastity Falls, and it slive Dangerously Dark and vibrant with the whole era environmentnd background it s just there without By Way Of A Wager any long descriptions which ismazing it s lso full of discussions bout writing literature nd literary spirations nd I ll probably never gain look down upon pulp writers paid by the word count When Kingdom Comes and definitely not on Howardnd whenever Novalyne Price manages to put her ego side it s lso full of beautiful The Wayward Bride (Besotted Scots, and sensitive descriptionsbout the things you cannot change bout ll that s goddamned tragic in life Such a Dance about the sense of livingt the wrong time in the wrong placeAll in ll it s fascinating nd nerve racking book If Novalyne Price s style didn t get so much on my nerves s it did it would be simply fascinating It s gonna take me bit to fully process this book but suffice to say it was tremendou.
